Venomous (WIP)

Created by Morgan McKenzie Kauffman
Directed by Marisol Soledad

Who’s got it right? The preppers or the protesters? The wizards or the prophets? The techo-futurists or the native wisdom keepers? And has anyone even asked the bees?!

Venomous is a solo show looking at our shared planet through differing realities: A venomologist who is on the brink of discovering a life-saving cure from the venom of a rare insect on the brink of climate-driven extinction….A self-injector’s who’s been on the fringes of science and research for years, self-injecting snake venom in the hopes of living forever…. An AI programer whose belief that new technologies will lead to true global abundance is put to the test…A rare spider whose civilization abides by a very different code of ethics than the human’s. Through overhead projector art, storytelling and physical theatre virtuosity, we see how, despite these characters’ hold wildly different definitions of ‘a good life’, their lives are intricately reliant on one another.

In a time of deep political division, the rise of the MAHA movement and naturalist fallacy, the destruction and opportunity provided by superhuman technologies, Venomous asks – if there is a future for this planet, who’s in it? The humans? The bees? The trees? The people we disagree with?
